This automation acts as a vigilant competitive intelligence agent that works for you 24/7.
Here's how it operates:
- Setup: You provide a list of competitor website domains (e.g.,
competitor-a.com, competitor-b.com) and a Slack channel for alerts. - First Run: On its first run, the agent visits each competitor's website, extracts key information (pricing, positioning, features, and customers), and establishes a "baseline". It then sends a detailed summary of this baseline to your specified Slack channel and creates a Google Doc to store this historical data.
- Daily Monitoring: Every day, the agent revisits the same websites and extracts the same set of information.
- Change Detection: It compares the newly collected data against the previous day's snapshot stored in the Google Doc.
- Smart Alerts:
- If any meaningful changes are detected (e.g., a new pricing tier, updated marketing tagline, new customer logos), it sends a concise alert to Slack detailing what changed, for which competitor, and why it might matter.
- If no changes are found, it can send a quiet confirmation that all is stable, so you know it's still working.
Usage Ideas
- Monitor competitor pricing pages to react quickly to price drops or new premium tiers.
- Track changes to competitor homepages to understand shifts in their marketing strategy and value proposition.
- Get alerts when competitors add new customer logos or testimonials to their site.
- Keep an eye on competitor blogs for new product announcements or content marketing strategies.
- Monitor "Careers" or "Jobs" pages to get early signals on a competitor's expansion plans or shifts in focus (e.g., hiring more sales staff or engineers for a new product line).
Customization Ideas
This template is a powerful starting point that can be easily tailored to your specific competitive intelligence needs. You can customize:
- What you track: Easily change the information you monitor. Instead of pricing and features, you could track new job postings on a careers page, updates to a company blog, or changes in leadership on an "About Us" page.
- Where you look: If a competitor's pricing page isn't at
/pricing, you can point the agent to the correct URL (e.g.,/plansor/buy). - Your Alert Style: Modify the format and content of the Slack messages to fit your team's workflow. You can change the "Why it matters" and "Recommended actions" sections to be more specific to your strategy.
- Notification Destination: While it's pre-configured for Slack, you can have the alerts sent to a different service like email or another messaging platform.
- Data Storage: The agent uses a Google Doc to store historical data, but you can change this to use a different service if you prefer.
